Can Ethnographic Film, Research or Perceptions on Peace Be Decolonized? The Case of Documentary Videos of the First Decade of Peace in Aceh, Indonesia
Thursday 25 October, 12:30, University of Eastern Finland, Aurora
This workshop focuses on the experiences of researcher/producer Marjaana Jauhola’s (University of Helsinki) ethnographic research and the series of short documentary videos, Scraps of Hope/Kepingan harapan. All in all, 14 videos have been screened in multiple locations in both Aceh, Indonesia and in Finland to provoke discussion of what sustainable, just peace, or decolonized narratives of peace, could be about. The workshop consists of video clips, discussion on colonial gaze and power relations of ethnographic film, and attempts to challenge them.
