Mama Africa

Mika's documentary MAMA AFRICA world premiered at the Berlin Film Festival in February, where it was presented in the Panorama section. The film received an Audience Award (2nd place). After Berlin the film received several festival invitations and it was already shown at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York and and the Hot Docs in Toronto. Mama Africa's tour goes on, the next festivals are Seattle, Midnight Sun Film Festival, Edinburgh and Sheffield...
"Mama Africa" is a documentary about the recently deceased South African icon Miriam Makeba, who traveled with her powerful music around the world to spread her political message against racism and poverty and for equality and peace. "Mama Africa" is the homage to this extraordinary and impressive artist who incarnates the voice and the hope of Africa.

Mika Kaurismäki

Mika Kaurismäki (born 21 September 1955) is a Finnish film director and producer. He is the elder brother of Aki Kaurismäki. Mika Kaurismäki has lived in Brazil since approximately 1992 and has made several Brazilian-themed films, including Amazon, Tigrero, Sambólico, Rytmi, and Moro no Brasil. His film Brasileirinho is a 2005 musical documentary about traditional Brazilian choro music.

Kaurismäki has made films in several languages, most commonly English, Finnish and Portuguese. Below, original titles of the movies are shown in parentheses.
