IN MEMORIAM KNUT EKSTRÖM
Dear NAFA & VISCULT friends,
It is with profound sadness that I inform you that Knut Ekström passed away
yesterday at 5 pm following his recent uphill struggle against terminal
cancer. Knut has been one of the most important figures in the development
of NAFA since its inception in the mid-1970s.
Please join me in expressing condolences to Birgitte, his wife, and Tora and
Frederik, his daughter and son. The family is based in the Söder district of
Stockholm, an area which Knut enabled all of us to know the heart and pulse
of through his film series, including films about such apparently disparate
topics as the Salvation Army, an allotment garden, and a social service
office. NAFA has lost a very dear member, colleague, and friend, Söder has
lost a son and one of its most ardent supporters and lovers. A nice way to
remember him today, may be to sit down with a glass of good whisky, put on
the winter theme from Vivaldi's four seasons (which Knut rather cliché-like
used to separate the different parts of the allotment garden film) on the
stereo at a rather loud volume, close your eyes, and think about Knut and
all the wonderful moments we shared with him.
Warm regards,
Peter I. Crawford (NAFA Treasurer)
