Blatnoi Mir

“Blatnoi mir” is a film of three Russian prisoners serving a life term, taken from the edge of human life and the basic questions of life. The real drama in the film will be found within the cells where these men will live out the rest of their lives. Each inmate has to develop his own means to survive in that space of only just a few square meters.Andrei Shudarikov is a follower of the Hare Krishna movement whose time is filled by religious ritual. Mihail Buharov is deeply depressed and spends his time singing old prison camp songs. Sergei Balin is a former bandit-chief and gymnast who trains daily and pours out his thoughts in a stream of letters, which he sends to his mother. Pitak is the life and the future of these people. Their tattoos are the part of the picture, which reflects the past.

“Blatnoi mir” is a film about the mental reality inside the prison.
