the Yard

A short documentary about a neglected urban space, the backyard. Filmed in the Canadian city of Montreal ‘The Yard’ exposes the diversity of life behind wooden fences and metal gates. Reminiscent of Hitchcock’s Rear Window little stories unfold and minute observations emerge.

The stark monochrome imagery of the film finds its match in the sophisticated soundscape created by the musician and experimental filmmaker Matt Hulse. There are also contributions from the Canadian filmmakers Nelson Henricks and Nikki Forrest.
