Dr. Rolf Husmann

born 28 November 1950, Göttingen/Germany

Anthropologist (special fields: Visual Anthropology, Anthropology of Sport),
currently Chairman of the “Commission on Visual Anthropology” (CVA) of the
International Union of Anthropological and Ethnological Sciences (IUAES),
academic staff member and lecturer of summer schools in ethnographic
filmmaking at IWF Knowledge and Media Göttingen/Germany, part-time lecturer
at the universities of Göttingen (Sport Studies) and Braunschweig (Media
Studies), documentary filmmaker.

Educated at the universities of Göttingen and London (SOAS), PhD from
Göttingen University in 1984 with a thesis on “Transculturation among the
Nuba of the Sudan”.

Professional life as assistant professor at Göttingen University (1984-87)
and anthropologist at IWF Knowledge and Media (since 1987).

Founding member and executive board member (1989-91) of European
Association of Social Anthropologists (EASA).

Regional specialization in visual anthropology: Sudan, Oceania (Samoa, Cook
Islands),
